August 23rd, 2008 Hot Dogs at Zuke’s
Hot dogs after band practice at this place called Zuke’s up on Hawthorne. First time I’ve ever had this particular brand of tofu dog. Jack was kind enough to flip for said tasty meal.

I went over to Chris’s house today to talk to him about recording some of the bands that I’m involved with. He was giving me the skinny on his recording experience and setup. Pictured above is just a small amount of some of the gear he’s collected. Both Bruxing and Unnamed Project (Jack and myself) will be recording in effort to get some quality material to help us book shows in the future.
Took this photo early in the morning, what I would consider the end of Friday night. The roommates and I were outside half-watching a movie on the side of the house. Some very beautiful clouds were present with a near full moon. I decided to take a few long exposures with my new remote trigger. I stayed up finishing the last of the drawings for Dan’s movie, “On The Wing”
I hadn’t been out to breakfast in a while so I decided to change that. I went to a diner almost right across the street, sat at the bar, ate some eggs and hash browns. Surprisingly I managed to wake up early enough with enough time to enjoy breakfast and make it to work at the appropriate time.
I noticed these barricades as I was riding home from the Big Business/Red Fang show. They were arranged in this strangely ordered manner, which obviously caught my eye. I wish that I had my DSLR on me, as it’d have made for some nice shots. This was after the blues festival along the waterfront had ended, so I’m assuming they were starting their cleanup of the event.
I went out with my good friend Ellie to celebrate our one year anniversary out in Portland. We decided to go get the same meal that we first had when we got here, which was fish and chips and this restaurant called Sloan’s. Best fish and chips ever. Year two here in PDX is going great so far!
Justin and Ellie invited me to come with them to the Washougal river in Washington on Sunday. Justin drove us to this place called Dougan Falls, which is pictured here (with Ellie and Justin in the top left, for sizing reference). It was a very beautiful spot on the river. Kids were jumping off the boulders into the lagoons and deep bends of the river. I couldn’t resist and took off my sling a few days early so I could swim in the amazingly clear waters. It was COLD. Very, very cold. Discovered naps on granite are surprisingly comfortable.
This is a shot from last Thursday on Alberta St. in Portland. It’s a big street fair / market where people sell lots of crafts and artwork. It’s really hard to capture the vibrancy and energy of the atmosphere. Someone parked their car perpendicular to the flow of traffic with a big “STOP” sign on the side, making a protest about how the police refuse to close the street down despite the incredible number of people perusing the market. I bought my first piece of artwork from a lady who does the most fantastic portraits I have ever seen.
This is a picture of some people waiting at Chicago O’Hare airport for my return flight to Portland. I rather liked the idea of this picture – plenty of people sitting around waiting for a plane all by themselves, all facing away from one another, all waiting for the same thing but no one was talking. Seems to be a common theme lately.
I went and saw my friends Scott and Greg play in their band called “Best Friends”. It’s just as the name implies, they’re best friends and they love playing together in bands – both in this group and numerous other side projects over the years. The show was on a Sunday night at a place called Vault 13 in Detroit. Great vibes, great time.
